Thomas F. Navin
Thomas F. Navin of Ft. Mitchell, passed away on August 29, at age 82. Tom was born August 26, 1939 in Marion, Ohio to Francis and Helen Lutz Navin. He was the proud father of Brigid Matlock (Chris) of Woodlawn, KY, Patrick Navin (Marianne) of Ft. Wright, KY, Nora Navin of Chicago, IL, Maureen Simon (Steve) of Cincinnati, OH and Kevin Navin (Kelly) of Little Rock, AR. Tom loved spending time with his 11 grandchildren, Adam Matlock, Katherine Matlock, Sarah Matlock, James (Maria) Navin, Kevin (Paige) Navin, Madeline Navin, Sam Navin, Max Simon, Henry Simon, Sophie Navin, Miles Navin, 6 great grandchildren and niece, Susy (Dave) Schumann, and nephew, Timothy (Nikki) Shaffer. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Nanette Schaeffer and Margaret Navin.
Tom retired as Director of the Commission for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation for Glenmary Home Missioners in 2021. He served on the Social Action Committee of the Cincinnati Archdiocese and the Racism, Climate Change and Interfaith Addiction task forces. Prior to this position Tom served as Director of Social Action and Prison Ministry with Catholic Charities of Arkansas for 13 years. While there he was cofounder of the Catholic Charities Summer Institute and he developed an Addiction Ministry. Tom also promoted and worked for social action and ministry for the Archdiocese in Houston, Texas. During his years in nonprofit he was an advocate for the incarcerated, addicted and homeless. Prior to his work in social justice he worked for many years in the advertising industry. He also served in the United States Army Reserve as a First Lieutenant.
Tom graduated from Indiana University and spent most of his life cheering on his beloved Hoosiers.
A private family memorial service will be held at SWINDLER & CURRIN FUNERAL HOME, Covington, Ky. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Glenmary Home Missioners 4119 Glenmary Trace Fairfield, OH 45014 or your local animal shelter. Dad would be thrilled if you would have a scoop of Graeter’s in his honor on Thursday.
